Phuket

Thailand's largest island has stunning sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. It also has a lot more to offer than just girlie bars and big hotel resorts. The best way to see the island is by hiring a bike and scooting around to some of the hidden spots other tourists have yet to discover. White beaches, swanky hotels that don't cost the earth and top service with a smile, the perfect great getaway. And it is cheap to go on a shopping spree.

Patong Beach is the most famous beach in Phuket where you will find nightclubs, cafes, markets and bars.

Karon and Kata beaches are the best beaches in Phuket and are surrounded by great restaurants and bars. They are also fantastic if you want to get away from the pushy crowds of Patong Beach without missing out on all the fun.

Chalong, Rawai and Naiharn beaches are more laid back and give you a good chance to met the locals. If you like Thai food the street vendors and fisherman cook and sell their daily catch along the beach front each evening at sunset. Most the islands dive boats, fishing charters, speed boats and long tails leave from Chalong marina to Coral Island, Racha and Phi Phi islands daily. Night life is varied including quiet beach bars, local restaurants to adult bars with live music. Staying at Chalong is highly recommended for those heading to other islands as you can walk to the boat pier from your hostel.
